Workplan

The AgiFlex project workplan
The project is divided into 7 complementary and related work packages (WPs).

WP1 develops the overall computational framework for the Multi-Agent System. Basing on an analysis of current tools and future requirement, careful considerations will be given to the system design, including fundamental decisions concerning the way of interaction between the agents and the optimisation strategy.

WP2 is dedicated to the digital twins of all relevant process steps which provide the main basis of the smart agents. As first version, considerably simplified digital twins modelling the current state of the plants of the two industrial partners is implemented. This facilitates an early verification (and modification if needed) of the functionality of twins and overall system with current plant data in the subsequent WP3. Gradually new and more sophisticated digital twins/agents are incorporated to mimic future process chains and to meet the requirements of different horizons of production and energy management.

WP3 comprises the exploitation of the AgiFlex system for re-optimisation of process integration and improved decarbonization strategies. Therefore, scenario studies are performed in this WP. The unique optimisation capabilities of the AgiFlex system enable to determine innovative process integration strategies for different stages, consider e.g., the management of energy streams and process gases and the adaptation of gas handling systems to new gases and their related properties, allowing also for incorporation of optional technologies (e.g., reforming). Therefore, sustainable and resilient decarbonization strategies along the time scale are determined, i.e., the optimal design and operation modes under different external constraints, like e.g., prices of energy sources and emissions. Finally, the developed work also applies the system to fluctuating external conditions to assess the flexibility of the operation points and possible demand-side response measures.

WP4 implements and proves the AgiFlex system as demonstrator in the operational environment of the two involved industrial partners considering also tuning and adaptation, as well as staff training. This WP aims at demonstrating the AgiFlex solution in two real industrial operational environments, using current operational data and anticipated inputs for future operation to evaluate and improve the agent-based tool.

WP5 addresses exploitation and transferability of AgiFlex for future use in other steelworks by significantly increasing the scope of conditions and scenarios to maximize the deployment potential of the developed solution. This WP also quantifies the impact and delivers exploitation and business cases.

WP6 targets, firstly, the development of adequate plans for dissemination and communication and the development of website. Afterwards, accordingly to the plan, it carries out stakeholders and advisory board consultations, communication and dissemination activities to maximize the transfer of knowledge and outcomes deriving from AgiFlex system application

WP7 covers the project management work including the coordination, the organisation of meetings with the partners, project monitoring and evaluation, financial management and the reporting work.
